The rain fell just as it often did. Heavy sweeps pelting the rooftop as they sat on the couch inside. Cyva smiled in a pleasant manner as she always did, her hands steadily and carefully drying her daughter’s large wings which were dripping with water. Meanwhile, Gahbriogyva was beyond unpleased. There was a lack of happiness that came with finding herself at their family home, but none so much as finding herself at this place while her father was present. Gahbreal sitting across the room on the opposite end of the couch sipping from a mug of what smelled like a type of coffee, but also alcohol. It looked to be the same stuff Evagelyne would drink when she was particularly displeased with others. Surprisingly, however, he did not seem pleased as he normally did when she was around.

The dark, the quiet, like an ambient melody of shadows serenading only those whose ears are attuned to that which is unseen. It was both a blessing and a curse, a grace and a defilement. It was for this reason that, even with only the light of a single enchanted brazier of blue flame, the footsteps which began to echo off of the walls was exceedingly noticeable. Or at least noticeable to those who had not found solace in the silence, the loneliness. Not that it went unnoticed, more so that it was entirely ignored.
“This is odd. You rarely ever ask for an audience with me these days,” Novevu spoke as he sipped from the glass of wine resting before him. “Even more troubling that you chose to have Xainayne present as well.”
Not a sound, not an echo, not a solitary murmur or whisper. The silence was almost maddening and yet that was exactly how things were meant to seem. A place so quiet, a forest filled with willow trees and pink flora. Not even the wind made a sound as it passed through the leaves and petals, and the large rockface ahead did not let out a single creak or crack. Ominous, dreadful, intense, the baser words used to describe a place of such stellar darkness and yet that is how it was meant to be. Through the arching stone, past the walls of well-maintained rock and mineral, it was past all of this where one would find themself in the hidden grove of pure dark resting on a bed of pure white flora. Even during the day, it was like the moon was shining down and touching the earth with a serene dim dark. Within that dark? That was where the Chisuke estate rested.
The wind howled, surging past him in a manner that swept up the embers which sprinkled the air around him. Embers of a stark black which held no real color. His knees dug into the dirt at his feet, the trees swaying back and forth, leaves brushing to and fro, light rain falling down over his bare body. His hair, as black as the night sky, fell back as he raised his head to look up at the stars and yet he spotted none. He could feel the water trickling down his skin to the ground as his head fell downward and his eyes settled on his hands. They were well worn, battle hardened, covered in calluses and scars. His body a memorial of trials and tribulations of which the results of multiple sword strikes could be seen. None of which he was worthy to heal by way of claimant kind. It was left to heal naturally, as with all other damage received in this manner.
The warmth, the comfort of home. It was something which eerily clung to the walls of their home. Something which seemed as if it did not truly belong, and yet no matter how much anyone was willing to deny it the fact remained that it was still present. This is what it meant to be within their household, closed within the walls of the home of Cyva and Gahbreal. Many knew very little of the place and few people actually knew its location, but the doors were always open to anyone who managed to happen upon the premises. That was the rule, that was the decision made by Gahbreal himself, to close the bridge between claimants. It was also for this reason it was ever a possibility to have others visit in such a casual manner, Cyva opening the door for their guests.
“You WILL have to TRY HARDER than THAT,” Eric spoke as he watched Gabi throw punch after punch at his abdomen to no avail. She simply could not manage to move the man.
"Do you both have to yell?" Mayray spoke as she continued with her soup.
There was something so luxurious about being so close to Gabi, but only something that Jaffe could truly understand. The warmth of her body, the exposure of her form, the way her face relaxed as she slept; it was all so calming and peaceful as opposed to when she was awake. But nothing was as comforting or blissful as the feeling of her feathers on the skin. They were soft like top quality blankets and no matter where she attempted to position herself when sleeping with her the woman would always find a way to wrap them around her. This time wasn't much different from any of those, Gabi having fallen asleep next to her on the couch as they watched a movie and relaxed. It didn't take long after that for the woman to cling to her and cover her with one of the feathered appendages.
Times like these were when Jaffe couldn't understand her at all. She knew Gabi for many things, but mainly for her brute force approach to almost everything and her extensively violent behavior which was shown in everything from her body language to her face. However, it was at these times when she calmed enough to sleep that Jaffe found herself with the opportunity to see her face in its purest form. No crazed smile, no eyes full of malice or gruesome hunger, no cheeks red with a twisted arousal for violence... just a normal expression just like any other woman, although Gabi's looks were far beyond normal. Cheeks slightly rosy, hair like a wave of silk, soft breaths which came from even softer lips. While she wanted the woman to belong to her in one way, having Gabi belong to her in this way as well carried its own set of perks as well.
"Gabi," she spoke as she poked the woman's face.
"Mm, no."
"C'mon. You know you don't like sleeping on the couch. Well, even though your couch is the size of your average person's bed."
When she received no response, it became clear that Gabi would not be getting up from her current position easily. But Jaffe had her own way of manipulating the woman into doing as she pleased. Especially when she found her to be tired. Placing a kiss on her forehead managing to bring a smile to the woman's face, a kiss to her cheek garnering the same reaction as well as causing her cheeks to redden.
"Stop, I have stuff to do tomorrow."
"All the more reason to get in the bed," Jaffe spoke before giving her a peck on the lips. "Are you going to listen?"
"It'll take more than that."
"Fine then."
Jaffe moved the woman's wing from her person, allowing herself to get free long enough to reposition herself onto Gabi's lap. There was a moment in which it looked as if she were prepared to protest, but calmed considerably when met with another peck on the lips followed by a much more passionate kiss. She knew most of her weaknesses, or at least that ones that didn't involve combat. It was because of that knowledge that Jaffe knew just how susceptible Gabi was to this type of stuff. So easily drawn in, so easily infatuated. In a way it was innocent, but then it had to be compared to her normal behavior. When she finally pulled away the woman almost seemed disappointed; her head moved forward after her as if not wanting it to end.
By this point Gabi had finally been woken up to some degree. Her eyes now slightly open, face flush with exhaustion and yet she was entirely raring to go on. She so enjoyed pleasant things at times and rarely ever received them, but at least for the time being it had become possible. She wondered if this were the type of feeling her own mother felt whenever she coaxed her father into giving her the affection she wanted? It certainly seemed like it, the pleasure she gained with each kiss. The feeling of Jaffe occupying her lap, the warmth of her person, it was all enough to drive her crazy. But then, as if building up to the climax she wanted, she could feel Jaffe's fingers tracing the fine line of her curves up her body. Gabi's hands grasping at her thighs as if to brace herself for something even more pleasurable until... the feeling of the blonde's hands wrapping around her neck caused her eyes to widen.
"Ack! Damnit Jaffe!" she shouted as her wings flared outward and she pushed the woman to the floor.
"Looks like you're finally fully awake," the woman laughed as she lay on her back. "You aren't too disappointed are you?"
"You keep pissing me off like this and I might just go to Arthur for comfort."
"Oh please. You think your dad would allow you to do something like that?" Jaffe spoke standing to her feet. "Aikekunai or not, Arthur would have to fight that man if he ever even thought to do anything with you."
On one hand Gabi was upset, but on the other it was certainly true. She knew her father better than anyone aside from her mother. Jaffe was one thing when it came to a relationship, but Arthur would be an entirely different situation to deal with. she wouldn't even be capable of properly using the man for revenge! How useless could he possibly be to her? Perhaps it wasn't fair, but fuck being fair!
"Shut up, Jaffe. You've really pissed me off this time. Who knows how long it will take me to get back to sleep now?"
"It won't take too long, you're a heavy sleeper."
"Not as much as you might believe," she spoke as she held her arms out to the woman who reclaimed her position back on Gabi's lap. "But there is one good thing out of this."
"And what might that be?" Jaffe asked as Gabi pulled the woman closer.
"I'll be taking the day off tomorrow." A smile stretched across her face the likes of which her company knew all too well.
"Do you have a reason why?"
"Of course I do! Ah! I'll been spending the rest of this night making sure I get you back for what you did. You won't be getting any rest either, my succubus."
“Up! Up! Up!”
A shrill shriek of a child with black wings would have been a sight to behold for anyone who wasn’t familiar with the circumstance.
“Gabi. Manners.”
An older slightly deeper replica of that same voice echoed but it was drowned out by the continuous repeated request to be lifted up by the tall artificially-dyed red-head. When it became obvious that the girl would result to violence if she did not have her request met, he lifted her up so that her legs dangled off of his shoulders. From here, the girl would have an elevated view – though for the most part all she wanted to do was pull at his hair like a mischievous kitten.
Resting by his side was a suitcase, and now that the tiny tyrant had been sated; the humans who were also inside the seaside dock arrival terminal went back to minding their own business; it was merely a claimant case of visual trickery that made it so that his favourite niece looked wingless.
He had been away for far too long, he was sure that the last time he had seen the small girl and her parents it was after she had been born and her paternal figure, Gahbreal has expressed doubts about ever being able to sleep another night for all the crying and screaming that left the small infant’s lips.
It had been nothing but a short miracle when Eric had entered the house, having rushed over with no shoes and only wearing pants. He had nearly destroyed a wall in his haste to greet Gahbreal and Cyva’s daughter.
Maybe it was a sign, when the screaming and utterly furious Gahbriogyva had fallen silent and not only that, but had gone right to sleep in his arms. Eric had never been a father, not even in his first run of life – Arthur was the father, not him. He had been so scared that she had died in his arms after she had fallen asleep. Cyva had to explain to him that babies needed their sleep and that it had just so happened to be the case that their daughter had fallen asleep in his arms. She must have felt safe and secure in his arms.
After that, their relationship as uncle and niece was solidified.
Eric might as well have moved in, for all the time he had spent there. Almost every moment after his first introduction with the small girl, carrying her about, tossing her up into the air – and catching her of course. Much to the horror of both of her parents, when he managed once to throw her up into the air so high that all they saw was a speck to indicate she was still up in the air.
Later on, they had expressed their annoyance when they were provided with the knowledge from he had taught her how to tackle a full grown man with no more than her index fingers as well as a whole host of other aggressive tricks that he promised would come in handy when she was just a bit older and more sought after.
This had been almost four years ago, after he had been called off on a mission that meant that he had no contact with anyone he particularly cared for; there had been concerns that he had died and that no one had managed to find his body – which is what he had wanted people to believe.
“It’s good to see you Eric.”
Gahbreal inspected the metal aikekunai, who was silent. He hadn’t spoken since his arrival and Gahbreal had to wonder if the damage sustained by the man had left him mute or at least rendered mute. He then lifted his head just a bit so that he could see his daughter pulling at the red-head’s hair and recounting everything and anything she could remember from her first four years of life.
Lowering Gabi off of his shoulders, he wrapped his arms around his niece and hugged her tight. He couldn’t quite believe that she had grown so much in so little time and he wondered just how much of her life and progression into a fine claimant had been missed by him, all those crucial moments he would never get back. Why he would have to start now by making it up to Gabi.
He hadn’t expected to be tossed onto the ground, their position reversed. Gabi had used the technique he had taught her as a two month old to get ahead of him.
“Very clever.” He cracked a grin.
“I did it!”
“You did, but you haven’t beaten me yet.”
He got up and dusted himself off as the four year old Gabi scowled.
“But I did it. You were knocked off your feet.”
“That’s not how you win love. If you want to really beat me. You’re going to have to kill me remember?”
“Since when was this agreement made?!” Gahbreal asked in horror.
“Oh, when she was two weeks old and tried to rip my throat out with no teeth.”
Gahbreal paled to an impossible shade of ghostly white as the implication that Gabi had only wanted to come with them to the docks was in hopes of murdering her uncle. Not only that but now all of her violence since he had left made sense… come to think of it Gabi had never shared what was in that big box of items she had been given. Eric patted Gabi’s head and gave her a look of murderous pride.
“One day, you’ll get another chance. Now, let us go eat.”
There's nothing more peaceful than the drizzling before a storm. That mix between peace and chaos which can last between several minutes and several seconds. It pelted the ground with soft melodies and echoes of a pleasant night which hovered overhead. The moon was clearly visible through the thinnest of clouds, illuminating the buildings, roads, vehicles which remained parked on the sides of the road. Aside from that cautious downpour there was no sound at all outside of the footsteps of the two who walked causally along the sidewalk. One carrying an umbrella while the other chose to keep their head exposed to the elements. They were not the only ones out, very few others standing under the shade of buildings with cigarettes between their lips. Every once in a while a car whizzing by before fading into the distance. It felt like any other average night in the city. However, things were never that simple.
"You can feel it... right?" the one beneath the umbrella spoke.
"How could I not? they haven't exactly been attempting to hide it."
The one whose head remained exposed turned his head slightly, catching a glimpse of the character in question. They didn't try to hide themself or make things seem even the slightest bit hidden. On one of the nearby rooftops he was clear as day, although covered in enough darkness to be completely unrecognizable. All that was clear, certainly above all else, were the red eyes which made it clear that he was watching them. There was no mistaking that.
"This doesn't make any sense. Why would he be watching us?" male spoke as he turned his attention forward again.
"Do you have any idea who it is?" the woman spoke as she tilted her umbrella to the side slightly.
"That's just it," he spoke as he joined her beneath the cover for a moment. "That has to be Gahbreal, but we haven't done anything to have him be after us."
"Perhaps something is wrong. Either way, we won't gain any information creeping around like this. We'll go somewhere more secluded and ask him directly what the problem is. Surely this can be resolved in that manner."
"If you say so."
The two continued on their way as if nothing had changed, but he was certain that Gahbreal had noticed him look back at him. how could he have not noticed? Maybe he was also waiting until they reached a more secluded place, somewhere he could act more freely? But it made so little sense the more he pondered it. They hadn't done anything to garner his action, or perhaps this was something an ancient had called on him to do for a different reason? If that were the case then it would be best to go somewhere to converse in private, but if that weren't the case it would certainly spell their dooms when he chose to attack. It was stressful to even wonder what was happening.
They turned each corner deliberately, as if following an unmarked path, until they reached an area which no one would come at this time of night. The city held onto a plethora of areas that would no doubt be abandoned, but the abandoned parking garage they now found themselves in would work well. Going to one of the higher floors would ensure the lack of prying eyes. The reduced number of working lights would make it difficult for anyone to notice anything were even happening if they ended up coming to blows. This would serve well as the place for which they could meet and speak properly. All they had to do now was wait for Gahbreal to approach them, but when several minutes passed and no one showed it became clear that they would need to call on him to bring him out.
"You can come out already, we now you're there." the male called out as the woman shook the water from her umbrella and closed it.
"I made certain to go unseen, undetected. You have better senses than I expected," this voice. It wasn't Gahbreal's.
"Stay back. This isn't right," the male spoke as the woman drew a blade from within the umbrella. "Show yourself."
"Don't lose that bold attitude now. I'd be disappointed if you didn't put up a proper fight." The two watched as a male stepped from behind one of the pillars in the parking garage on the same floor as them. "I'd like to know how you noticed me, but it doesn't matter now."
"That doesn't make any sense," the woman spoke as she watched him carefully.
"I know, I was thinking the same thing. We've been up here for a few minutes and no one came from above or beneath us the entire time. It doesn't make sense how he managed to get so close to us without either of us seeing or noticing him."
He gave off no scent, his house unknown. He stuck to the shadows as if attempting to dampen their senses of him. Even though he was standing right in front of them they couldn't say it wasn't working. All they could tell was he wore dark clothes, had a hood over his head, and a weapon at his side. The red eyes they had seen earlier now entirely gone. However, one thing was clear. This was not Gahbreal. That was made even more clear when a bullet was fired in the woman's direction from his position, the male at her side blocking it with the flat of his own weapon. Now he could see it clearly, the woman standing with her hidden sword in hand and the male with a shield blade. A unique weapon, to say the least, but not something he couldn't handle.
"Show me your true nature."
"Sorry buddy, but we don't even know who you are," the male spoke as he readied his weapon.
"As if that matters," he spoke as he placed the gun back into his jacket. "You'll be ashes by the end of this anyway."
He rushed forward, sword drawn from his side as he closed the distance as quickly as possible. The male stepped forward with shield raised, both blocking and attacking in succession with the use of his unique shield. However, it was not something that could easily stop their assailant. His attacks were relentless and the longer the fight persisted the more it seemed as if he wouldn't back down or fall behind. With each attack he seemed to sharpen his senses, as if unlocking the secrets behind his technique with each movement they made. This was the essence of combat after all, and it wasn't until his defense had been broken that the male finally stepped back. But by that point it was far too late to manage creating distance between the two.
He was on him like a rabid hound, matching his steps as if trapping him in a forced dance to the death. It felt less like he was making his own moves and more like he was being led along by superior technique. He watched as his attempt at a counter was brushed aside, the blade attacked to his shield locking with his own, manipulated and opened up. There wasn't any possible chance to get past or away from this guy, but as he watched his weapon move to secure its prize he found himself surprised to see the woman's weapon intervene and move their assailant's weapon aside. He recovered quickly, just enough to watch as the woman attempted to fend him off in a manner far more hostile. The difference in combat for someone without a solid means of defense exceedingly more dangerous as he watched her deflect and dodge attacks in desperation. She had just entered the fight and yet she had already be put in the complete defensive?
"Work with me, Cin!" the male called out as he rushed back in to help.
"Yes, Loas!" she called out as she matched his pace.
This was the first moment in which it seemed they would be capable of handling this threat. He working on the defensive while she focused solely on offensive. Their combined assault making multiple steps which managed to push him back ever so slightly, but they still remained on edge. Knowing that he had yet to use a single ability it only made it seem as if he had some type of trick up his sleeve. With claimants like Cyva around, it would only be natural to think it foolish to attack without knowing if the target would make their own attacks backfire, but things could not continue on like this. It was slight, but slight was still too much in this type of scenario. Step by step the male once again starting to overpower the two of them with attacks of his own. His swordsmanship was at an unimaginable level. His strikes didn't even carry that much force behind them, but he always attacked places which benefitted him bast. The only house which produced swordsmen of this caliber was Evyette's, but why would she send someone like this after them? This was certainly too much.
"With skill like this, it's no doubt that you're one of her claimants!" Loas spoke as he continued to defend. "What reason does a Rhihon have to attack us?"
"What?!" the male called out with a new aggression. It was as if he were offended by the suggestion.
His sword struck down on his shield, an attack which opened up his defense for only the slightest moment which he used to step forward and into their space. His foot quickly connected with Cin's chin, knocking the woman back and onto the ground. The male returned to the defensive as he watched the woman attempt to get back up, but it was no use at all. The blow she had received being more than enough to jostle her mind and inhibit her balance. Now he was forced to fight on his own for the time being, or at least it seemed that way until the male slipped by his shield in a manner that seemed impossible. He struck his defenses with movements that made it hard to defend and keep him out of blind spots. It wasn't until he felt a similar kick to his stomach that he found himself recoiling back. However, he didn't have the time to remain out of combat as he watched the male making his way over to the woman. He stood up quickly to intercept, but as he stumbled back to the ground he looked to find his leg had been severed just beneath the knee. Barely hanging on at all.
"Stop!"
"Stop? Didn't you say I was Rhihon? If you'd compare me to that band of merciless murderers then why would I ever listen to that request?"
He watched as the male raised his weapon in a manner that carried to much respect for the way he acted. As if refusing to forgo tradition even for his enemies, but with a distaste that made it clear he didn't want to. He dragged himself along the ground, attempting to close the distance to protect his comrade to no avail. As the weapon was lowered without hesitation, he found himself cursed with a sense of despair he had never felt before. Watching as she faced her imminent demise directly... but instead of the sound of rending flesh, the ringing of clashing steel echoed throughout the area instead.
"I'll agree with you on one note, boy. But don't take it as a sign of friendship." The male looked up to see the same red eyes from before. However, how they had still managed to not be what he had expected only forced him to recoil in displeasure. "He certainly ain't a Rhihon, he lacks the rage for that. But I'd prefer if you don't lower my house's standards to that of this trash."
Joseph watched with an unenthusiastic gaze, his eyes meeting that of Hellfire's who looked just as ravenous as he had heard. There wasn't a lot he knew about this one, or rather he had specifically gone about keeping his distance. Aside from all of the information Levei had given him when they had become allies, there were a specific number of people she had told him to avoid if at all possible. And while Gahbreal himself was on the list, along with the other aikekunai if underprepared, Hellfire had been pointed out as a must for keeping his distance. When he questioned her as to why she had made it exceedingly clear that they were a terrible matchup for one another. Stating outright that Joseph's own temperament would serve to do nothing more to increase the claimant's overall capabilities. He made it a purpose to investigate him after that, learning how his abilities worked as best he could, but if there was one thing he learned with the very first encounter it would be that there would be no way of approaching him without being outright discovered without even being seen. Why?
"This doesn't concern you, Hellfire." Joseph spoke as he pushed against the claimant's weapon.
"You must have lost your damned mind. I can feel that hate on you all the way down the road. I ain't gonna pass up an opportunity on some fun like this!"
"Stand down, Rhihon!" Joseph spoke as his grip tightened with his diminishing patience.
"That's it! Feed that fire more! You might just make a good meal for me yet!"
What had once been a normal and proper fight quickly devolved into savage combat, the woman staggering her way over to her partner and doing what she could to heal his injuries, revealing her place as a life claimant in the process. Even so, neither of their eyes could leave the display before them. Hellfire didn't give the slightest fuck about holding back, tossing waves of black flames about as if wanting to cause as much chaos as possible. On the other hand his opponent dodged his attacks perfectly, closing the gaps in moments to attack where he could. Hellfire's swordplay was in a league of its own. His strikes carried enough force behind them to pressure anyone's guard and this opponent was no different, causing him to resort entirely to dodges as to avoid taking damage. However, it was difficult to enough to approached in general with flames steadily beginning to blanket the area. The more he used, the more it persisted.
It seemed as if there was no possible way to win. Or at least until Joseph changed up his stance in a manner that brought a smile to Hellfire's face that not even Gabi could replicate. He recognized it so well he even chose to pull the flames from the surrounding area back to his person, everyone watching as he removed his jacket from his person.
"What are you doing? You're losing your advantage."
"Don't be such a fuckin' killjoy. You thought I'd just keep things goin the way they are when you'd use that stance? Against me!" Joseph watched as the male raised his left hand forward and lowered his blade down to a lowered position at his side in his right. They both stood tall, both stared one another down, both with the same demeanor, both with the same stance. "You certainly do know your shit, boy! But challenging me with my own father's techniques? This has got to be something fun."
The very thought of it pissed Joseph off even more. He knew it. Knew that a lot of the combat techniques he and his family used were derived from claimants. How else were they meant to understand what they were fighting if they didn't know how to use it? Didn't know how to put it into practice? But the more he thought about it the more it made sense. This claimant seemed to literally be feeding off of him in some way, and the more it happened the more he found himself wanting to kill him more. The more he felt as if his thoughts were not truly his own, but they were certainly his own feelings. They both shared the same look in their eyes, but their expressions were completely different. While he was left unable to smile at all no matter how much he desired it, Hellfire looked as if he enjoyed the hate more than anything else on earth.
"I hate you claimants. But I don't believe I hate any of them more than I hate you."
He rushed forward. Watching as, no matter how he attacked, all of his attacks were brushed aside as if they meant nothing. No matter what manner of attack he presented it didn't seem as if it would be enough. He couldn't pressure him, couldn't push him back, couldn't even move him from the same spot. However, he could certainly feel the heat in his chest with each passing moment. He hated it enough to want nothing more than to erase it, the red which glared at him with so much bold disrespect. As if looking down on an animal.
"Aren't you worth more than this?" Hellfire's words were like a fuse being lit. "At this rate you'll be nothin' more than a waste of time, but I don't mind killing you anyway."
Hellfire could feel it himself, the temperature of their surroundings rising out of control. Each slightest vestige of black flames which remained scattered about becoming so unbearably hot that they seared the concrete it rested on and melted it to molten stone. This was a first, something he had yet to experience, but he wasn't even in the state of mind to cause this. Yet even in his confusion it became clear relatively quickly, just how effective the passive workings of his abilities had been affecting his opponent. His words couldn't have been that extreme, not for someone he knew nothing about. However, as he could just barely see it now with the illumination brought on by the magma his flames melted the ground into, his opponent looked almost entirely drowned in a state of such overwhelming hate that he could barely keep himself contained. His hand gripping the hilt of his sword so tightly it tore the skin. Foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, but most importantly his eyes were now even redder than his own.
"I have to kill you. I have to kill every last one of you."
"That's a beautiful red you've got there, but now I'm even more curious... I've only seen humans get those red eyes when dealin' with me. Do you really think you can do anything here, human?"
It was an anomaly, an abnormality, the way he moved forward. Hellfire could see his weapon trace the air like a flash of silver, and yet as he raised his weapon to block the attack it grinded against the edge. It was difficult to hold into position, and Joseph's weapon was too short to reliably keep in place. It was the most dangerous type of combat, tossing aside all forms of defense for a direct means of attacking. Not only that, but it would force him to do the same or be left in a meaningless game of defense. It was at this point that the battle shifted. No longer a fight between two trained swordsmen, but that between a swordsman at the height of his prime and a wild animal hellbent on culling its prey. The claimant being the former and the human being the latter.
Joseph fought, as if letting go of all humanity. Dodging in a manner that lacked protection or a means to recover while also attacking in ways that kept him moving about in a rushed frenzy. Even when Hellfire managed to use his weapon as a means to push him back or knock him to the ground he would recover so quickly it was as if he felt no pain or planned to go down. As time pressed on both of their defenses deteriorated, both of them sustaining cuts and minor damage. It wasn't until Hellfire raised his weapon upward and engulfed it in flames that the tides of the fight had changed. The swing downward sending a wave of flames outward that coated the area like a flash of heat that left the ground burning a heated red. However, the sound of a car being impacted caused him to turn and spot the human now standing on its roof. It was a magnificent display, really. Watching as he used the vehicle as a means to push himself forward before hitting the ground. The bottom of his boots colliding with the heated ground, sparks scattering as he slid forward with his body twisting into a a thrust which passed right by Hellfire's defenses and pierced his chest.
"Holy shit," the claimant spoke as he rose to his feet. "Did Hellfire just lose?"
"There's no time to think about it, prepare to fight-" his partner paused just as she reached for her sword. The red eyed male's laughter echoing throughout the structure.
"You thought that'd hurt me?" he spoke as he grabbed Joseph's arm so he could no longer move away. "You thought I'd be run through by some vagabond toothpick and kill over? Well you were wrong."
"Why won't you die?" Joseph spoke as he attempted to pull his arm away to no avail.
"Isn't it simple? You believed you were on par with me, but no one is on par with me! How am I supposed to kill my brother if I'm too weak to kill some lowborn human who has a bit too much hate to properly handle?" his words were accompanied by the sound of his weapon plunging into the ground at their side, Joseph only capable of watching as his hand clenched into a tight fist and erupted into a black flame that crackled like that of a primordial flame. His eyes growing to glow a crimson so bright it felt as if he were string into the sun, or rather the face of a demon without any mercy to spare. "You will learn today, that no matter how much hate you have in your heart it will never be enough. Because mine will always be greater than yours!"
His fist felt like a block of solid metal against his chest. The burning sensation which followed like a hot iron pressing against his flesh. For a moment he could have sworn he'd lost consciousness entirely, but the feeling of the cold stone floor as he rolled across the ground was enough to let him know that wasn't the case. He could feel it clearly, the damage he had sustained. It felt as if his chest were falling apart. His heart racing as he raised himself to his feet as quickly as he could, but stumbled as he coughed up more blood than he had yet to ever see himself do in the past. At least he was calmer now, the shock a stimuli that he wished he could have avoided, but it was clear that Levei's warning wasn't just for show. His eyes turning up to see the male approaching, his wounds bleeding profusely and yet he didn't seem to care at all, face held in a manner that made it clear that he wasn't going to leave things alone there. But then again, he wasn't going to either.
"I have to thank you... my senses are a bit clearer now," Joseph spoke as he placed his sword back into the sheath.
"Oh? So you know how smart it is to give up and die now? Well it's a little too late for that. I'm going to burn you away until not even ashes remain."
"Give up? Of course not. I came here with a job to do, and I don't plan on leaving until its done. Danger is danger, and you'd do well to never forget that I am the most dangerous thing alive. I came to kill the girl, and her friend was a bonus, but my task has yet to change. So, you'll just have to stand there for a moment and watch."
"Who the fuck do you think you-"
Hellfire found himself cut off, but not with words. He raised his weapon quickly to defend himself from the hail of bullets which came careening in his direction. It hadn't occurred to him at all that the boy was hiding a rifle under his jacket, but he could tell by its make that the thing was dangerous. It was a claimant's gun, the design far too exquisite to be anything of human make, and as such he went directly on the defensive blocking the bullets with the flat of his blade. He watched as Joseph closed the distance between the two of them, a mistake he would come to regret once he managed to get close enough to be within his striking range, but that would be something which would never happen.
His eyes widened, realizing exactly what was transpiring as he watched the male take his second hand off of the rifle yet continue to fire. It was quick, impossible to predict without knowing or react to without expecting it, but there was no way anyone could react fast enough to keep him from drawing the large handgun from his jacket with his other hand and firing a bullet directly into the woman's chest. The force of the bullet alone was enough to knock her to the ground, but what made it more extreme was the excruciating the claimant seemed to be in. Barely any time had passed between her screaming and squirming on the ground, but several second had passed before she stopped moving entirely. A clean kill that none of them could have managed to stop. It was at this moment that his rifle ran out of ammo and Hellfire rushed forward to close the distance.
"You think it'll be as simple as that? You're not going to leave this place alive!"
"Don't be so upset. This was never a fight between you and me," Joseph spoke as he placed the handgun into his jacket and pulled out a simple pistol, once again of claimant origin. "You were never going to keep me from accomplishing my objective."
The two would clash once again. This time with Joseph entirely on the defensive. He tossed the rifle in the claimant's direction as a means to free his hand which now rested on his chest. He could feel his ribs attempting to move about with each step he took, doing his best to dodge with the same accuracy he normally did, but having to often times resort to defending himself by deflecting attacks with the bottom rail of the pistol. Hellfire's assault was relentless, and between his strikes Joseph would line up his shots and fire, but neither of them were capable of landing anything at this point. Joseph was too focused on his defense to even aim properly while Hellfire couldn't manage to pin down his movements enough to cut him down. But the clash would not last long as soon as Joseph saw his opportunity to escape.
"I do want you dead, that's for certain, but now isn't the time."
"As if you have the luxury of a choice!"
"I've always had a choice."
Joseph steadied himself, moving in close and watching as Hellfire moved to strike. He dodged quickly in the normal way he chose to most, letting the attack just barely miss his as he reached into his pocket and tossed an item up into the claimant's face. He could barely tell what it was before the hunter fired a bullet into it, the stun grenade flashing in close proximity of the two and disorienting both their hearing and sight. Hellfire stepped back, black flame swirling around him in a a manner to act as a temporary defense until his sight refreshed. But by then the assailant was already gone. He looked around, checking to see if there was any trace of him remaining, but of course there wasn't anything left behind.
"Fuck! My heart won't be happy about this."
"Who was that?" the male claimant asked as he watched over his partner's corpse. "Why was he after us? What did he want?"
"Hah, the fuck? Do I look like I give a damn?" Hellfire spoke as he picked up his jacket.
"What?"
"I was here for him, not to protect you. I don't even know why you two were still here... bring her to Destodai. Or better yet, Eviax. I'm sure she'll want to know about this, but tell them to keep their mouths shut about it! And you'd better do the same."
"I see you're just as reckless as ever. Not to mention you failed."
"Yeah, I know. The guy was a bit more skilled than I expected. He even tried to use some of Harvel's attacks against me!"
"Your dad?" Evyette spoke as she tightened the bandages over his wounds. "And you still lost?"
"What can I say? He started getting affected by the hate, and when that happened it was like fightin' someone using multiple methods of swordplay at once. He'd start some attacks one way and finish them a different way entirely. It was quite the sight."
"You rarely ever compliment anyone. Especially on something as simple as a feint."
"I wouldn't call it a feint, more like... a stance switch? Imagine preparing yourself to attack with a horizontal slash, following through, but at the very end of the attack you twist yourself into a direct thrust flawlessly enough to leave barely any reaction time. It was like he'd attack expectin' to miss at times or to bait you in, only to attack with his real strike afterwards. Not only that, but he'd mix the techniques of different cultures into his attacks. That very technique I described is how I got this wound here."
He placed his hand over the bandages which covered his chest. Evyette did not seem phased, but she certainly seemed troubled. Up to that point there weren't many claimants who were capable of actually causing any problems for Hellfire, but this was clearly different. Not only had they managed to cause any sort of proper damage to him, but they also managed to escape with their life. That was the most damning part of it all which gave away the capabilities of the assailant. Winning in a fight against him was difficult enough, but then to give him the slip? Above being a warrior, Hellfire was and is an assassin. His mother made certain he was capable of all forms of tracking for this very reason. The fact that someone got away from him was difficult to imagine.
"Remind me, what house did you say he was from?" she questioned him as she continued tightening his bandages.
"It wouldn't kill you to be a bit gentler, would it?" he spoke as he watched her closely.
"Quiet. You can't even feel it and I know you can't. You showed up here like it was a normal day. Or do you want me to kiss your wounds like a child?"
"I can't say I'm against the offer," he spoke as his expression grew more serious. "It was a human."
"A what?"
"The opponent. He was human. Someone I'd never seen nor heard of before. He fought with both human and claimant techniques melded into one, and he knew what he was doin. The way he moved made it seem like he'd fought a lot of claimants in the past, so there's no tellin' how many others he's had the glory of killing off over the course of his life, but I'm pretty certain he may have been human."
"Do you think he'll pose a threat in the future?"
"No doubt about that. But we should keep this hushed. Perhaps between certain people. The method he used to kill his target doesn't sit well with me. For a human, it was too efficient at its job. I couldn't even properly gauge the effects, and the bullet was gone before I could even find it."
"A human hunting claimants, but we can't be so certain yet. We don't know enough about this individual. He may have been attempting to hid his origins."
"That's true. It ain't like it hasn't happened before... I'll have to look into it."
"Absolutely not."
Evyette held him down in a manner she knew he couldn't escape from. He didn't look helpless as much as he looked uncomfortable, but that was exactly why she did it. There was something about seeing his face when he was in a position he couldn't bring himself to use force to escape that brought a sense of satisfaction and joy. But primarily it was an act of both carnal desire and strict submission. There was a reason he was there to begin with and she wasn't going to allow him to just waltz away so easily. It was because of that she positioned herself on top of him and watched on with satisfaction as he refused to move her aside.
"Is there a reason why I can't?" he spoke with his brow raised.
"Because you need to heal, of course. After sustaining so much damage I can't let you go without healing properly."
"Dear, all I need is about thirty minutes to an hour in a dark space and I'll be completely healed."
"Nope. This is also your punishment for failing the task I gave you," Evyette spoke as she placed her hands on his chest. "Your opponent may have been unexpected, but failure is failure."
"You're enjoyin' this far too much."
"Just stay put, here with me? Am I not allowed to worry when you show up covered in wounds like this, Jerimyha? You may not suffer the effects of shock and heal easily enough to ignore most forms of heavy damage, but being stabbed through the heart isn't something I can just let you do without feeling my own heart ache."
"I... as if I could refuse a request like that. I swear." He raised his hands and placed them on her own. "I personally don't care much for the damage this heart in my chest takes, but when my heart that's right before me says something like that I have to take care of it."
